Interest: Nationwide, Obama's stimulus funds are helping boost the number of graduate fellowships in science from 1,200 historically to 2,000 this year, and to 3,000 in the next three years. And the administration says the entire $787 billion stimulus program has saved or created 2.5 million to 3.6 million jobs since it was signed a year ago -- numbers that its opponents dispute, especially as unemployment remains at a relatively high 9.5 percent.
Interest: The program will be led jointly by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation, and is billed as a collaborative effort among federal agencies funding science research and universities and other institutions conducting such federally funded research. It is intended as a "multi-phase project that will evolve with time in response to the demands of stakeholders."
