The primary mission of the Research Commercialization and SBIR Center is to create Student and Faculty Startups and transition the over 600,000 science and technology (S&T) graduate students and post-docs into industry jobs after they graduate. This is achieved through

  • Entrepreneurial training and mentoring
  • Educational workshops and courses on research commercialization and SBIR submission
  • University Technology Showcases to companies, investors and entrepreneurs
  • Online networking through researcher profiles on the site
  • University Startups Conference

 

Our programs instill a fundamental understanding of innovation, commercialization and tech transfer required to successfully function in industry. This includes a deep and practical learning about intellectual property, employment law, consulting, tech transfer, federal funding, SBIRs, and startup creation and funding.

The site is open to the general public and will help anyone interested in being an active participant in the Global Innovation Economy, including faculty, university tech transfer officials and professionals, startup creation managers and professionals, VCs and angel investors, economic development officers, university economic development officials, government officials, entrepreneurs, licensing specialists, business development officers, corporate strategic investors, entrepreneurs-in-residence, and university research park managers.

Costs

Registration to the website is free. Most introductory workshops and webinars are free, while most advanced workshops have a registration fee involved.

 

Difference Between Webinars and Course/Workshops

Webinars are generally more informal and free. Advanced Courses/Workshops are more structured with a particular educational purpose that it tested at the end of the course. A Certificate of Successful Completion is awarded upon passing the test of an advanced course.


Grad Student & Post Doc Discounts

 

To help undergrad, grad students and post-docs enter the research commercialization economy, they can receive up to 75% scholarships to attend the paid workshops.

The site incorporates the latest in social networking functionality to help faculty, students, universities, industry and government develop a robust network of researchers commercializing invention and innovation.
