SERIES DESCRIPTION
Successful University-Industry (U-I) collaborations are key to keeping American innovation strong. The University-Industry Demonstration Partnership (UIDP www.uidp.org) is offering a multi-part webinar series to present strategies for getting the most from U-I research relationships. Participants will benefit by developing greater understanding of the perspectives, restrictions and operating procedures of each partner in institutional-industrial research collaboration in order to find more effective ways to work together.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED AND WEBINAR SCHEDULE
The series is based on UIDP’s first-of-its-kind Researcher Guidebook, a publication that addresses the opportunities and challenges unique to institutional-industrial collaborations. The Guidebook is already receiving kudos within the research community as a practical and dynamic tool for active researchers from academia, government labs and industry.
Building on issues raised in the Guidebook, the webinars will share the collective expertise of UIDP member representatives who are often facilitators of U-I relationships at their own organizations, from the perspective of both industry and academic organizations.
Topics to be covered include:
Managing expectations/Creating long term relationships December 5, 2012, 3:30 to 4:30 PM ET
Understanding the benefits and challenges of working with industry/research institutions December 12, 2012, 3:30 to 4:30 PM ET
Establishing contacts with industry and research institutions/ Dealing with confidential/proprietary information January 9, 2013, 3:30 to 4:30 PM ET
Preparing proposals, Budgeting January 16, 2013, 3:30 to 4:30 PM ET

Managing intellectual property (IP) issues January 30, 2013, 3:30 to 4:30 PM ET
Each lecture will be followed by a question and answer period. The webinars will be recorded and archived for future viewing.
