Current trends indicate that crowdfunding is not for startups or small biotech companies , especially for those owning the IP, because their technology is early-stage, because the technology cannot be backed by an academic institution; because the company cannot predict when it will start getting revenues; and because they do not have funds to demonstrate self-sufficiency. This defeats the purpose of crowdfunding.
