the Research Commercialization Introductory Course is a very popular online course designed to help science and engineering researchers better understand how research commercialization works. Interest: UC Berkeley is known to power ideas of all kinds. One newly engineered idea discovered on campus that will be a power source itself is the printable battery. Imprint Energy is a new startup founded by campus graduates Christine Ho and Brooks Kincaid that has created printable batteries. The design, produced in part due to a $250,000 grant from the university, is seen as a new way for batteries to be produced and disposed of in way a less harmful to the environment.

Interest: The University of Michigan's Wolverine Venture Fund recently announce its latest investment, but the student-led VC's bigger exit will come from the experience of making said investment. Nicholas Douville isn't the typical U-M student participating in the venture capital fund. He has a PhD in medical engineering from U-M and is well on his way to becoming a doctor. He participated in the due-diligence team on the fund's latest investment in Sonitus Medical, a medical device company.

Interest: Today at the 2012 World Hydrogen Energy Conference in Toronto, Canada, the University of South Carolina-City of Columbia Fuel Cell Collaborative launched its fifth Fuel Cell Challenge. The Challenge originally launched in 2006, and the purpose of this year's Challenge is to engage interdisciplinary student teams from the University of South Carolina to compete for $75,000 in seed funding through two contests

In 2005, Jacqueline Siy-Ronquillo began researching quantum dots — manmade semiconductor nanocrystals that emit light — for her doctorate in chemistry at the University of Utah. "We were trying to understand the stability of quantum dots and their behavior when subjected to different environments," Siy-Ronquillo said as she stood near a bank of test tubes in a small lab in the Henry Eyring Building on the U. campus.
