Imprint Energy is a new startup founded by campus graduates Christine Ho and Brooks Kincaid that has created printable batteries. The design, produced in part due to a $250,000 grant from the university, is seen as a new way for batteries to be produced and disposed of in way a less harmful to the environment. Author: Jon Zemke Source: Nicholas Douville - Wolverine Venture Fund Interest: The University of Michigan's Wolverine Venture Fund recently announce its latest investment, but the student-led VC's bigger exit will come from the experience of making said investment.
Nicholas Douville isn't the typical U-M student participating in the venture capital fund. He has a PhD in medical engineering from U-M and is well on his way to becoming a doctor. He participated in the due-diligence team on the fund's latest investment in Sonitus Medical, a medical device company.

In 2005, Jacqueline Siy-Ronquillo began researching quantum dots — manmade semiconductor nanocrystals that emit light — for her doctorate in chemistry at the University of Utah.
"We were trying to understand the stability of quantum dots and their behavior when subjected to different environments," Siy-Ronquillo said as she stood near a bank of test tubes in a small lab in the Henry Eyring Building on the U. campus. On March 1st, 2012, scientists, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists will gather in Boston at the annual meeting of the American Physical Society for an invited symposium titled “Entrepreneurship - The Quest for Start-Up Success Based on Research Advances.” Speakers will present each of these three perspectives and share their learnings on maximizing the likelihood of successfully commercializing applied science.
