NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN
Each year, U.S. universities create around 600 new companies based on the almost $35 billion dollars of federally funded research conducted at universities. The VSS will showcase the best university startup companies, as nominated by the country's major research universities, leading venture capitalists, angel investors, strategic investors and SBIR program managers to present to a select members of the Global 1000.
The VSS is organized by NCET2, and supported by the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), the Angel Capital Association (ACA), Strategic Investors Forum, Mid-Atlantic Venture Association, International Business Forum, and Global Corporate Venturing Group.
We invite U.S. universities, accelerators, Angel investors and VCs to nominate their best startup companies in any field, including but not limited to: Chemicals, Materials, Electronics, Energy, Environmental, Healthcare/Biotech, Industrial, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Media/Communications, Software/Services.

Companies should be ready for $100,000-$500,000 of funding and ideally have already been vetted by the nominating university, and received accelerator or proof-of concept funding.
A. The VSS consists of 2 parts:
Present in pre-conference, live VIRTUAL STARTUPS SHOWCASES (VSS) between June to August 2013 - The best startup companies, as nominated by the country's major research universities, accelerators, Angel investors and VCs virtually showcase to a select group of invitation-only investors and Global 1000 companies.
An opportunity to Present in IN-PERSON SHOWCASES at the “Exits: Startups Showcase + Conference™” in San Francisco in September 2013.
B. The Virtual Showcases
Nominated startups will be grouped by industry category and will be assigned a date to present. Presentations will be viewed by a select group of invitation-only investors and Global 1000 companies.
Each Virtual Showcase will consist of a 3-hour online webinar with 15 companies, with:
• company slide presentations by the CEO or a Senior Executive;
• Question and Answer
C. The In-person Presentations
The in-person presentation will consist of a 2-3 hour conference showcase with 10 companies on Friday afternoon, March 22, 2013 at the 7th Annual University Startups Conference in Washington, DC, each given:
• company slide presentation
Participating companies in the Virtual Showcases have the option of coming to the conference to meet investors attending the conference.
• In-person meetings in designated meeting areas
